Karate
America Portage has offered karate classes for over ten years. We are
located above Rhyme Drug Store in downtown Portage. The
Kinder Kickers is our newest program for children 3-4 years old. The
Junior Program teaches students 5-7 years old basic karate
moves while emphasizing focus, discipline and endurance in a fun atmosphere.
Children 8-13 years old learn traditional forms, practical
self defense, grappling and sparring in addition to what is learned in the
Junior Program. Adults and teens 14 and
above have a similar curriculum but meet at different times than the younger
students. All our classes include
warm-ups, exercise, and focus on perfecting each skill. We hold graduation for students who have completed the criteria for
a new belt approximately every six weeks.
This
website contains information for students interested in starting karate as
well as our current students. The schedule is updated monthly.
It lists the curriculum focus of each class that month. Class times will
be updated as needed.

Testimonials
“Karate America has benefited my child in so many
ways. She has more confidence in herself; she’s become stronger as a
person and physically as well. Karate has helped her to show respect
and learn to be patient. Most of all she loves doing it and wants to go
everyday! She loves her instructors and they are what she says “The
Best” and have helped her greatly!”

"Karate America has been a great help to our son. He can pay attention
better and can focus better at school. Your instructors are ‘awesome’!
That is my son’s word for Ms. Genrich and
Mr. Griffey. They make sure their students work to be the best they can
be. Their classes are run with discipline and teach respect for their
teachers and classmates. Aaron has also gotten more confidence in
himself since he’s been in Karate America.”

grown in confidence, focus and friendships. She has enjoyed her
accomplishments at each belt level and at tournaments. Karate is a

"Our son has been at Karate America Portage for 5 years. We have seen
his confidence and his coordination improve tremendously since being in
karate. He also has the skills to defend himself which gives us peace
of mind. Ms. Genrich and Mr. Griffey are wonderful teachers. They give
each student personal attention to make sure their students learn the
skills correctly. They also make it fun! Karate America Portage
teaches student about self-discipline, hard work, and perseverance. The
new owners have also recently remodeled with new pole pads, a wall mat,
carpet, and a computer area for students and parents. We feel fortunate
to have such a great program.”
